Blip!
I’ve just discovered Blip.fm and after about an hour, when you’ve figured it out and feel at home, it’s awesome. Imagine Twitter (which I don’t really get) for music.
Previously, to find new interesting music I used the abomination that is myspace to browse from band to band in the hopes of stumbling upon something beautiful. Which works occasionally, but at the cost of having to use Myspace ![]()
Blip, by contrast, is reminescent of last.fm in that it takes your musical choices into account, and makes you a kind of DJ. You blip songs, and they appear in a twitter like feed. On it’s own, that’s pointless as there is lots of stuff you’ll probably hate.
But, when you find a song you like, check out the person who posted it’s Blips. If their taste seems good, fave them. Then, when you go to your Homepage bit, you get a feed of tracks from people who have good taste. Add 30 or so people and you have a more or less constant stream of fairly decent music from all over the world.
The only downside is that it’s a huge timesink.
